Primorsky Club Dynamo Reaches Russian Basketball Cup Final Four for First Time

The basketball club«s breakthrough in the Russian Cup is sparking conversations throughout the Primorye region and nearby areas.

For the first time in history, basketball players of the Primorsky club Dynamo have passed the quarterfinal stage of the Gazprombank Russian Cup and reached the semifinals. The team defeated Chelyabasket from Chelyabinsk with a score of 92-91 and advanced to the semifinals based on the aggregate of two matches, becoming the first participant of the «Final Four,»—164:162, according to the basketball club«s press service.

Dynamo is a Russian professional basketball club from Vladivostok, founded in 2021. It has participated in the Superleague four times and even became champion in the 2023/2024 season, but never advanced beyond the quarterfinals in the Russian Cup. The current team coach is Eduard Sandler, well-known in Primorye.

The «Final Four» is a match format where the semifinals and final are held in one city over the course of a week.

The match took place on Wednesday, January 28, in Vladivostok. By the time it started, the Chelyabinsk team had already lost the first game with a score of 71-72, but they were not ready to give up and showed great activity, quickly imposing a fight. The first 4 points for the team were scored by Dmitry Rivny, who successfully made two drives, and later they doubled the lead over the Primorsky team and reached a score of 10-5. As a result, the first quarter ended with a score of 28-22.

In the second and third quarters, the Chelyabinsk team still maintained the advantage and ended them with scores of 52-44 and 73-69. Despite this, the Primorsky team, especially Daniil Aksenov, Ivan Strebkov, Alexander Ershov, and Dakuann Smith, began to actively level the score. The latter scored 5 points in a row, and with a score of 92-91, Dynamo secured the victory.

This is the fourth time in the history of Primorsky basketball that athletes will represent Vladivostok in the «Final Four.»

On January 21, we reported that the best forward of the hockey club Admiral, Daniil Gutik moved to Spartak in a player exchange. He admitted that he himself wanted the exchange and, as an athlete, is constantly looking for new challenges, according to the Admiral press service.
