St. Petersburg Zenit officially confirmed the transfer of Brazilian midfielder John John from the club Red Bull Bragantino on January 28. The agreement with the 23-year-old footballer is valid until the end of the 2030/31 season, and he will wear number 14 in the new team.
According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee amounted to 20 million euros. Journalist Ivan Karpov reported a different figure — 18 million euros plus 4 million in bonuses.
John John«s main position is attacking midfielder. As indicated by Transfermarkt, he can also play in central midfield or on the left flank. In an interview with Zenit»s website, the Brazilian noted: «I have always been criticized for not scoring enough. I am working on it, and the results are already visible. I like to play behind the striker, but also be responsible for finishing attacks.»
For Bragantino, the footballer played 76 matches in all tournaments, scored 20 goals, and made 14 assists. Previously, he played for Palmeiras, with whom he twice won the Brazilian championship.
Zenit«s next match will take place on February 3 in the UAE, where the team will play against Moscow Dynamo as part of the RPL Winter Cup.
