For Those Who Are Malkin at Heart: Play Hockey in Valenki
The winter festival in Magnitogorsk includes a hockey match where players wear traditional felt boots.
On Saturday, February 7, the «Valenki» (Felt Boots) festival will be held in Magnitogorsk. Residents will be offered sports activities, a concert, and hockey fans will get a match played without skates.
The free event will take place on several sites of the «Pritiazhenie» (Attraction) park.
At 11:00, city residents are invited to the ice rink for a hockey tournament played in valenki.
«Just for those who are (Evgeni) Malkin at heart but never learned to skate. Grab a stick, put on warm clothes — and run to defend your team»s honor on the ice!« the organizers said to entice guests.
At 12:00, family competitions with fun races will be held on the square in front of the information center.
At 14:00, festival guests are expected on the boulevard next to the Entertainment Center for a concert program featuring local groups.
The annual «Valenki» festival is traditionally attended by famous athletes. For example, in 2024, city residents got autographs from Olympic champion Sergei Mozyakin. Which athletes will visit the park this year is not yet known.
