Dyakov says Rostov win triggered Anzhi's downfall

Vitaliy Dyakov, who played for FC Rostov from 2012 to 2015, in an interview on Anatoliy Katrich«s YouTube channel, spoke about the match that, according to him, ended the star-studded era of Anzhi Makhachkala. It refers to the game that took place on August 2, 2013 in Makhachkala, where Rostov won with a score of 1:0.
«We, Rostov, beat Anzhi, and after that game, they started selling off. Essentially, I closed Anzhi. And I closed Dynamo (laughs). And FC Money from the Media League I also shut down, then we sold it all together. I have rich life experience,» admitted the former defender.
Dyakov also shared impressions about the strongest opponents of that period in the Russian Premier League (RPL), highlighting Anzhi midfielder Lassana Diarra: «The strongest opponent is Lassana Diarra. The first time I played against him was when he was at Anzhi. A freak of cosmic level. He did everything so quickly and competently when he had the ball. Really galactic.»
The footballer noted that it was a time when the strongest foreigners played in Russia, and the championship was at its peak: «We caught that time, the end of the 2000s and the 2010s, when Russia had the strongest foreigners and generally the strongest RPL. Even that Anzhi: Eto»o, Willian, Diarra.«
After the defeat to Rostov, the management of the Dagestani club announced a change in sports strategy, the sale of leading foreign players, and a shift to a policy focused on youth.
