Cassierra Leaves Zenit and Joins Atletico Mineiro
Football club Zenit announced the transfer of striker Mateo Cassierra to Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro. The agreement between the clubs was reached on January 23.
«Football clubs Zenit and Atletico Mineiro have reached a principal agreement on the striker»s move to the team from Belo Horizonte,« the St. Petersburg club reported.
The Colombian joined Zenit in the summer of 2022 from Sochi.
During his time with the blue-white-sky blues, he became Russian champion twice, won the domestic Cup and three Super Cups.
In the 2023/2024 season, Cassierra scored 21 goals to become the top scorer of the Russian Premier League.
In total for Zenit, the forward played 127 matches in all tournaments, scored 49 goals and provided 23 assists.
In the Russian championship, he has 150 games and 63 goals to his name.
The captain of Atletico Mineiro is former Zenit striker Hulk.
Now Cassierra will play in the same club as the Brazilian veteran.
After the first round of the RPL, Zenit is in second place in the table with 39 points.
Earlier in January, the club also parted ways with striker Luciano Gondou, who moved to CSKA.
