Yekaterinburg Authorities Open to Demolishing Khrushchyovka for Renovation

Yekaterinburg authorities do not rule out the possibility of including buildings five stories and higher in the Complex Territorial Development (KRT) program. This was stated by acting First Vice Mayor Rustam Galiyev.

He reminded that work in this direction has already begun. At Podgornaya Street, 6 and 2, there are emergency four- and five-story corridor-type dormitories that are included in the renovation project. «We already have such a project. At Podgornaya, 6, there is a four-story building; at Podgornaya, 2, a five-story one. Both are recognized as emergency. These are corridor-type dormitories, and this only complicates the task because there are many owners. The auction has been held, work is underway. Essentially, we have started the work [on including high-rise buildings in KRT],» Galiyev said.

The official noted that to include five-story buildings in KRT under federal legislation, compliance with a number of criteria is necessary, including the year of construction and the state of infrastructure. However, city authorities are ready to consider such houses for renovation. A key condition is the initiative of the residents themselves, who must submit a collective application.

«Currently, there are 18 already concluded KRT agreements in the city, and we always focus on people»s appeals. If there are appeals from owners [to include their houses in the program], we will consider and include them. If there are appeals, then houses of greater height can be included. There is no problem with this. If they meet the criteria, we are all for it,« emphasized the acting first deputy head of Yekaterinburg.

The renovation program through the KRT mechanism has been operating in Yekaterinburg since 2022. The first apartment building built under this program was put into operation last year. The city administration continues to identify new sites for complex development.
