Confiscated house of former Stavropol traffic police chief auctioned

While the former head of the regional traffic police is serving a 20-year sentence, his family«s property is being confiscated. The famous house with a gold toilet has been put up for auction. Interestingly, the mansion was registered not in Safonov»s name, but in that of his cohabitant, whom the court ordered to pay compensation. Let«s look into the details.
Recall that the criminal group led by Alexei Safonov was detained back in 2021. Its members were arrested on suspicion of creating an organized criminal group (OPG) and receiving bribes totaling 21 million rubles (about $210,000 at current rates). They «earned» this money by issuing permits for trucks to transport grain and other goods with violations, without inspections. One «pass» cost about 10,000 rubles (about $100).
After Safonov«s arrest, the prosecutor»s office turned its attention to property registered in the names of the Stavropol police officer«s relatives. The value significantly exceeded the income that the owners could confirm.
The house that most interested law enforcement, and indeed the entire public, was the one where the former traffic police chief lived — literally a palace with luxurious furnishings and expensive furniture. According to journalists, Safonov«s cohabitant Elena Psel earned about 811,000 rubles (about $8,110) during this time, yet she owned a mansion with a gold toilet. A notable fact — Safonov himself claimed that when he arrived, the house was already built, and he views »some design elements« critically.
It was also previously reported that the court decided to seize this house from Elena Psel, but complications arose. The legality of acquiring the land plot was proven, so the woman must be paid compensation of 11.7 million rubles (about $117,000). At that time, the court could not make a different decision, since the mansion was transferred to state income, and it is inextricably linked with the land plot.
Now, this house has been put up for auction. It is specified that the three-story house is located in the stanitsa of Novomarievskaya in Stavropol Krai, Russia, on Yuzhnaya Street. According to information from the official auction website, the total area of the mansion is 232 square meters, and it is situated on a plot of about 1,500 square meters. The starting price at which the property is being sold is slightly more than 9 million rubles (about $90,000).
