Trump requested Putin halt Kyiv strikes for week
U.S. President Donald Trump said that he made a personal request to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump asked him for the Russian Armed Forces to stop strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities for one week. Trump cited severe frost as the reason.
«And because of the frost, extreme frost, and they have the same situation as we do, I personally asked President Putin not to shell Kyiv and other cities and settlements for a week during this… It»s not just cold. It«s extraordinary cold. There are record frosts there too,» — TASS quotes Trump.
According to Trump, Putin «agreed to do it» and «it was very kind».
«Many said: don»t waste time on the call, you won«t achieve anything. But he did it. And we are very glad that they did it,» — added Trump.
There have been no comments from the Russian side on this yet. Trump meanwhile added that there is «great progress» in the negotiations. He believes that the conflict in Ukraine will soon be resolved.
«[Special envoy] Steve Witkoff, [entrepreneur] Jared [Kushner] and everyone else are working very hard, I think it will happen soon,» — Trump is confident.
