Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko met with the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region. Gleb Nikitin told the speaker of the upper house of the Federal Assembly about the socio-economic development of the region, according to the Federation Council«s press service.

The head of the region stated that real wages for 10 months of 2025 grew by 7.2%, and real incomes by 8.6%. At the same time, the region now has the lowest unemployment in the country at 0.01%, Nikitin noted.

The politician also reported on the regional program to support families with children, which has allegedly already yielded results. The governor said that the most financially intensive initiative in this direction is the parental basic income, which is paid out either in a lump sum or gradually (the latter is chosen more often).

«The total fertility rate in the region has increased. Moreover, Nizhny Novgorod Region has exceeded the forecasts of Rosstat (the Federal State Statistics Service). I hope the result will be even more tangible in the future,» Nikitin said.

However, information on this issue is not publicized in figures. The fact is that since spring 2025, Rosstat has stopped updating statistics on demographic indicators. This has been noted by demographers, media, and representatives of some political parties.

As for the meeting with Matviyenko, Nikitin also noted active work to increase the region«s tourist appeal. In particular, the governor reminded about the government»s decision to include cities of Nizhny Novgorod Region in the Golden Ring tourist route, a historic circuit in Central Russia. By the way, against this background, analysts are already forecasting a rise in prices for daily rental housing in the region.
