Yekaterinburg Students Share How They Earned First Money

Girls from the media squad recorded reels in the summer where they talked about beautiful places in Yekaterinburg and got paid for it.
At 16, it«s easy to fall in love, but finding a job is hard. First, you have to somehow combine it with studies; second, the range of vacancies is limited not only by the labor market but also by law. And young people really need money — so they look for opportunities to earn extra. Five Yekaterinburg students told an E1.RU correspondent how they managed to earn their first money.
Earned 14,000 Rubles ($140)

Nelli will apply to a medical university despite her current media interests.
Nelli Shaalan, a student of the 5th Gymnasium, worked part-time as an SMM specialist and editor in the summer, and at the same time fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a blogger or journalist.
«I was involved in journalism as part of the school council: we conducted interviews, wrote posts. In the summer, I saw an advertisement for recruitment into the media squad of the Yekaterinburg mayor, where SMM specialists were needed. I realized this was my chance and decided to try,» shares Nelli.
In two months of work in the media squad, Nelli earned 14,000 rubles ($140). The schedule was flexible: the kids attended events and then covered them. «Many might think it«s a small amount, but we spent those two months like at a summer camp: we made friends, visited many exhibitions and lectures. Usually, viewers pay for such experience, but we, on the contrary, were paid to come and film,» Nelli says with a smile.
Despite her passion for media, Nelli is now in 10th grade and firmly decided to become a doctor. However, she doesn«t plan to give up her hobby. Perhaps in the future, the girl will run a blog about medicine.
Conducted a Tour for the Governor
Anastasia Mashina engaged in local history for money. In a team with other teenagers, she wrote articles and created projects on the history of churches in the Urals, design, and fashion of the past.
«Summer is a great time to not sit idle and earn some extra. Why not? In a month, I received 8,000 rubles ($80),» Anastasia says about her decision.
Her project was dedicated to the history of education in the Urals: she researched the first universities in the region, their founders, the time of their establishment, and the professions that were relevant in those years. And on June 21, she conducted a tour along the embankment of the Iset and Olkhovka rivers for Governor Denis Pasler and Mayor Alexey Orlov.
«Denis Pasler listened very attentively and didn«t get distracted. I was very worried about such a huge responsibility, I was afraid, but I prepared for a long time,» admits Anastasia.
Through the «City of Youth» project, one can get a part-time job mainly during holidays, but during the school year, students are offered to distribute leaflets or work as waiters in the area where they live.

Anastasia is a shy girl but gains confidence when conducting tours for officials.
The Work of a Teacher
Sofya Oteva is 14 years old, she studies at school No. 123 in the Academic District. In the summer, Sofya worked as a counselor at a school camp, educating younger students.
«Our supervisor was Ekaterina Andreyevna Romanovskaya, who taught us the basics of pedagogy: how to properly interact with children and find common ground with them. At first, it was scary to communicate with the little ones, but then I realized that everything comes with experience,» says Sofya.

Sofya may pursue a teaching career after her experience as a camp counselor.
According to Sofya, the most difficult thing about being a counselor is the constant busyness. There«s not a minute of peace from the children, you constantly have to come up with games and entertainment to interest the kids. Now she looks at teachers in a new way.
For a month of work, Sofya received 16,000 rubles ($160). Children can get a job as a counselor during other holidays — in autumn, winter, or spring.
Cleaned Up the Park
Bogdan Schultz is 17 years old, he studies at school No. 197. The guy cleaned up in Chkalov Park in Vtorchermet.
«Working wasn«t difficult, it was fun, work brings people together, I still communicate with many of the guys I worked with in the labor squad. I wanted to help nature, so that passersby would be pleased to see our park, and their eyes would rejoice at the cleanliness.»
Bogdan earned 8,000 rubles ($80) in one month.

Teenagers in the City of Youth project engage in sports and recreational activities together.
Record Earnings
Maria Shaburova is 17 years old. She independently identified a suitable vacancy for herself as a hostess at the Prov Project restaurant. To get this job, she contacted the Palace of Youth, whose specialists negotiated with the restaurant about working conditions and helped collect documents.

Maria looks forward to turning 18 to work without age-related restrictions.
«Even at 17, I want to be able to manage money on my own, and I«ve always aspired to work that involves active communication. They helped me realize my dream and get a job exactly where I wanted,» says Maria.
The result of her efforts was a substantial sum for a teenager: 50,000 rubles ($500) for a month of work.
