Woman swept into drainpipe dies in Bali flooding
The family of Ksenia Kozyrina, who died during a flood in Bali, needs to raise over 1 million rubles (about $11,100 at current rates) to transport her body back home.
«We are waiting for the exact amount from the embassy. 800,000 rubles (about $8,900) is just for processing all the necessary documents in their country. Then there will be more costs in Russia. We called the embassy and are waiting for feedback,» the victim«s relative said.
The young woman died during a heavy downpour that hit the island. According to her relative, Ksenia was traveling to visit friends on a flooded road when she was swept away by a powerful stream of water and sucked into a drainpipe. Her body was found when the water level began to recede.
«The woman and her vehicle were carried by the current under a bridge. We have carried out all necessary procedures and coordinated actions with the relevant agencies and consular services,» said Badung Regency Police Chief Arief Batubara.
Ksenia was originally from Revda in the Sverdlovsk region but had lived in St. Petersburg for many years with her mother. She had gone to Bali for the winter and was working remotely as an economist-accountant. She had friends there who identified her body and are helping the family organize the transportation.
«She was a confident driver and had been riding a motorcycle for two years,» said the victim«s relative.
