On the evening of Thursday, January 29, a sudden power outage occurred in Sestroretsk, part of the Kurortny District of St. Petersburg. Many residents reported a complete absence of light in their homes.
Video evidence captures the absence of indoor lighting and reliance on street lamps in the city.
The first complaints started coming in around 7:00 PM. One local resident wrote on social media: «All of Sestroretsk is plunged into darkness. Only streetlights along the road and mobile communication are working.»
Social media posts reveal residents« frustrations with failed emergency service communications amid the crisis.
Video recordings show that residential buildings are completely without lighting, and light is visible only from street lamps. On social media, users describe additional problems.
«Sestroretsk. What»s happening? No water, no light, can«t get through to emergency services, they say the number doesn»t exist. We«re hostages,» complains another resident in the «News of Sestroretsk» community.
According to information from service 101 of the Kurortny District, the cause of the blackout was an accident at a transformer. Power supply was promised to be restored within 30-60 minutes.
Moreover, due to the power outage, heating radiators in apartments began to cool down.
Later, the press service of «Rosseti Lenenergo» reported: «Specialists from Rosseti Lenenergo are conducting restoration work in Sestroretsk, Kurortny District of St. Petersburg, after a technological failure on equipment.
