Photos reveal hidden graves where Kuzbass boarding home residents were buried
The burial sites lack even basic fencing, blending into the surrounding forest.
Deceased patients of the Prokopyevsk psychoneurological boarding home were buried near the institution where they spent their final years, with no signs of a cemetery present. The NGS42.RU editorial team received photos on Thursday, 29 January 2026, from the sites where remains were interred.
The forested area adjacent to the boarding home contains several unmarked burial sites.
According to a source for the publication, last summer he accidentally stumbled upon the graves while walking in the forest. The young man did not understand where the graves came from, but assumed they were related to the boarding home.

At the request of NGS42.RU, he visited the boarding home the previous day and found that there are several burial sites, with those who died in the past month being buried in a new «cemetery.»

“Just in the forest, somewhere deep, there are grave crosses. In summer, it«s impossible to find when everything grows over. It would be a surprise for people if, wandering through the forest, they come upon graves with no clear attribution,” said a resident of Prokopyevsk.
Older crosses have been repurposed with new plaques, suggesting makeshift burial practices.
He also noted that some grave crosses are not new; apparently, they were taken from other graves, with fresh plaques nailed on. According to him, there are no identifying marks indicating that the area is a cemetery, either nearby or on internet maps.
The burial grounds are located close to the institution, yet remain unmarked on maps.
The NGS42.RU editorial team has sent a request to the institution asking for comment on the legality of the mass burial.
A simple cross serves as a grave marker, with no fence or official designation.
Previously, we reported that residents of the institution, including bedridden patients, may have been kept in the cold for several months because the boarding home buildings were not fully heated.
Management attempted to hide this and forbade employees from talking about the problems.
A cardiologist told our editorial team that, despite the official cause of death, most died from heart complications, which could have been triggered by acute respiratory diseases (ARD), acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI), or influenza that were detected in the institution.
