Mass flu outbreak at Prokopyevsk care home claims two lives

Doctors at the central city hospital were unable to help two residents of the Prokopyevsk psychoneurological care home who were hospitalized due to a mass flu infection. An NGS42.RU source at the medical facility said on Thursday, January 29, that there was little chance to save them.

«Many of the hospitalized have a number of concomitant diseases. Against the background of pneumonia, the heart function deteriorates, which leads to heart attacks in people with chronic diseases. Unfortunately, it was unlikely to help them,» the publication«s interlocutor said.

He added that it is still unknown what caused the patients« deaths; preliminarily, one died from viral flu, the second — due to a general deterioration of health.

In a conversation with NGS42.RU, employees of the institution said that the first cases of colds among residents allegedly began back in November. At the same time, the head of the institution, Elena Morozova, did not respond to complaints about the cold in two buildings of the institution.

«The cold was incredible, the worst was where the bedridden patients were. Now, while the commission is working in the building, they are heating at full blast. If they could provide heating, why didn»t they do it earlier, just freezing people?« the employee said.

According to her, the people were buried near the institution where they lived.

Earlier, other social workers told NGS42.RU that they wanted to conceal the mass outbreak of the disease and did not carry out quarantine measures. The situation worsened during the January holidays, but the managers did not contact the hospital. Only after publications in the media did it become known that about 70 people were hospitalized.
