Ice-related injuries surge in Novosibirsk, affecting over 300

In Novosibirsk, the number of injuries caused by icy conditions has increased. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations« (EMERCOM) regional department.
Rescuers have warned that the city and region are currently experiencing unstable weather with precipitation and a risk of ice formation. This poses a threat to all road users.
In Novosibirsk, over six days — from 22 to 28 January — 372 injuries due to icy conditions were recorded. During the same period last year, 167 injuries were registered.
EMERCOM staff advise wearing non-slip footwear, moving carefully, not rushing, and keeping your hands free. Elderly people are recommended to use canes with special tips.
«In the event of a fall, it is important to take the correct actions. To reduce the height of the fall, you should crouch down, tuck yourself into a ball, and roll to soften the impact,» the statement says.
Furthermore, in case of injuries, it is necessary to see a doctor. It is also not recommended to walk close to buildings, as there is a risk of falling icicles.
Earlier it was reported that a Siberian woman fell on a sidewalk in central Novosibirsk. She suffered multiple fractures of her shin.
