FSB Prevents Assassination Attempt on Soldier in Petersburg
It is reported that on January 30, officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) detained a man in St. Petersburg suspected of preparing the murder of a Russian soldier. According to the FSB Public Relations Center, the individual acted as an agent of Ukrainian special services, and a Makarov pistol with a silencer was seized from him.
Preliminary data indicates that the man contacted a recruiter via the Telegram messenger and declared his readiness to carry out a terrorist act. After receiving instructions from a handler, he obtained a weapon and conducted reconnaissance in the area where the intended victim lived. The plan was not implemented—FSB officers made the arrest, seizing a loaded pistol.
Investigators from the FSB Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region have initiated a criminal case under the article on participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.
