The incident occurred on January 13, when the entrance canopy of a store on Khlebnaya Street collapsed on a 78-year-old woman who had come to buy groceries; the structure simply could not bear the weight of accumulated snow.
The pensioner suffered multiple fractures in her right leg and was hospitalized. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Orenburg region deemed the incident sufficient to open a criminal case under Article 238, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation («Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements»).
