Driver killed in mass accident while overtaking in the Urals
A car driver died and two heavy trucks ended up in a ditch after an accident on a highway near Yekaterinburg. The crash occurred due to a skid during an overtaking maneuver.

A serious road accident that killed one person occurred on the afternoon of 20 January at the 42nd kilometer of the Yekaterinburg–Tyumen highway.

The passenger in the car miraculously survived the crash and avoided injuries.

According to preliminary information, a 36-year-old driver of a VAZ-2110 car was traveling from Tyumen and attempted to overtake. His vehicle skidded into the oncoming lane and collided with a Daewoo truck.

Following behind were MAN and DAF heavy trucks. To avoid a collision, the drivers of these vehicles had to swerve into the roadside ditch.

In the passenger car, besides the deceased driver, there was a 28-year-old resident of Kamensk-Uralsky. The passenger miraculously was not injured. According to him, his friend«s car skidded during the maneuver.
As reported by the Sverdlovsk Region State Traffic Inspectorate (STSI), the deceased driver had 17 years of driving experience and had been held administratively liable 32 times for traffic violations.
The driver of the Daewoo truck, a 24-year-old resident of Berezovsky, confirmed that he saw the VAZ start to skid. He has five years of driving experience and has been fined six times for traffic violations.
The Sverdlovsk region Traffic Police Directorate (UGIBDD) appealed to drivers to be more careful during snowfall. «During snowfall, it is important to completely avoid overtaking. Reduce speed, maintain an increased following distance, and be extremely attentive,» the department stated.
