Yekaterinburg building flooded with steam after pipe bursts

A hot water pipe burst on January 12 in an apartment building at Letchikov Street, 8a in Yekaterinburg. The basement was flooded, and steam spread throughout the courtyard and the building.

«Steam is coming from all the manholes in the yard, the walls of the third entrance have become damp, the whitewash is peeling off, dampness is getting into the apartments,» complained resident Zinaida. «The wiring in the electrical panel burned out. We are living in an emergency situation, without light, and apparently, soon without heating.»

The steam rose to the upper floors. Employees of the management company «EMC Housing and Communal Services» (EMC ZhKKh) told residents via a hotline that the accident occurred on the networks of the Yekaterinburg Heating Network Company (ETK). On January 20, water was pumped out of the basement, but the hot water continued to flow.
The press service of ETK confirmed that they received the request.
«Indeed, a request came from this house. Today, an emergency team will repair the pipe. Work is planned to be completed by 5 p.m.,»
the company stated.
