Stench burns eyes in Omsk apartment building sewage flood

Residents of building No. 59 on 2-ya Poselkovaya Street in the Sovetsky District of Omsk are complaining of an unbearable sewage smell that is spreading through the stairwells and seeping into apartments. The cause is the flooding of the basement with sewage, which happened several days ago. The residents« problem remains unresolved.
«On January 21, there was a post about the unbearable sewage smell and the inaction of Omskvodokanal at 2-Poselkovaya, building 59. Nothing has changed for the better, only gotten worse. No one is doing anything! Now the smell in the apartments is like in public toilets, and in the stairwells the stench of »incense« makes your eyes water! The city administration received a complaint, but no action was taken,» a post on the Telegram channel «Emergency Omsk» stated.
In the comments, residents of the affected building attached documents showing the management company had contacted Omskvodokanal in mid-month—according to the management company, the cause of the flooding was the shutdown of a pumping station that should be serviced by resource providers. On January 20, the water utility confirmed the station was not working but was being repaired. That same day, the management company sent a letter to the State Housing Inspection (GZhI) demanding urgent measures. However, according to residents, the situation remains unchanged.
[UPDATED January 26 at 13:33] The Omsk water utility reported that today, January 26, crews are pumping out water to lower the sewage level. After that, specialists will begin cleaning the pumping equipment.
«The pumps that transfer sewage get clogged with trash that city residents dump into the sewer network and stop. Omskvodokanal earnestly asks residents to follow sewer use rules and not to dump wet wipes, hygiene products, food waste, and other trash into the drainage network.»
January has been a tense month for utility accidents. During the frost, residents in various districts of the city are complaining of cold in their apartments, and a lack of hot water and heating due to constant accidents on the heating networks.
