Major water pipeline burst in Omsk floods basement, risks supply cuts

Recently in Omsk, an accident occurred on a water pipeline with a diameter of 1000 millimeters (about 3.3 feet) in the area of Timurovsky Proezd. Due to this, the basement of a neighboring five-story building was flooded. On social media, reports appeared about an upcoming large-scale water supply shutdown in a large area of the city near Marx Avenue and Irtysh Embankment.
As reported by NGS55.RU to the Omsk water utility (Omskvodokanal), the accident has already been fixed and citizens will not be left without water.
“Due to the burst, 23 high-rise buildings had reduced pressure. Today at 2:45 AM, the accident was eliminated, water supply restored. As for the flooded basement of the residential building, water has already started to recede from there. Today our specialists will conduct an inspection and if necessary, carry out pumping,” explained the head of the press service of Omskvodokanal, Marina Stepanova.
Due to the accident on Timurovsky Proezd, ice formed, water flows reached Irtysh Embankment, and then froze. As explained in Omskvodokanal, the removal of ice on the roadway will be handled by the city«s »Road Management and Improvement Department«.
