Volgograd man with aortic dissection denied subsidized medication
According to the man, since October last year, he has been forced to buy the subsidized drug with his own money.

In Volgograd, a 51-year-old man with aortic dissection and ischemic heart disease is unable to obtain subsidized medication. According to Sergey, he has been forced to buy the necessary drug with his own money since October of last year. His complaints to the regional health department and the regional duma, as the man says, have not yielded results.
As Sergey told V1.RU, the subsidized drug «Rivaroxaban» was prescribed to him in the summer of last year. However, since then, he has received it only once—in September.
«I have not been able to secure the subsidized medication for a long time. I have a dissecting aortic aneurysm and ischemic heart disease,» says the man. «The first and last time I received the drug was in September of last year. I went to the deputy chief physician, made a fuss. She wrote me a prescription, said: »Go, get it.« I got it.»
According to Sergey, a pack of the medication costs around 2,500 rubles (about $25 at current rates). But the man admits: for him, this is a lot of money, as he has to spend on other drugs as well.
«It»s expensive for me because this isn«t the only drug I take. I spend 10,000 rubles a month on all medications just to stay alive. I wrote appeals to the health committee and the regional duma, but I get dismissive responses. In the regional duma, they say: apply to the regional health department, and in the regional health department—to the attending physician.»
V1.RU inquired with the health committee of the Volgograd region administration about why the man is not receiving the subsidized drug and when the issue will be resolved.
«A responsible specialist from the hospital will contact the patient shortly and invite him to obtain the medication,» responded the department. «It should be noted that drugs are delivered to pharmacies almost daily, and at pharmacy No. 120, which serves subsidized patients from hospital No. 11, there are 60 packs of »Rivaroxaban« in various dosages under subsidized programs. If a different dosage is needed, the drug will arrive at the pharmacy no later than 10 working days.»
