The number of victims at the Volzhsky Psychoneurological Institution (PNI) has been revealed, where one of its residents suddenly died. According to official data, in 2025, approximately every fourth patient in the intensive care unit was injured: 20 out of 71 inhabitants.

It is noteworthy that, according to the regional prosecutor«s office, over 10.5 months, the number of victims was counted as six more. The Regional Committee of Social Protection explained the difference in methodology: the prosecutor»s office takes data for the entire PNI, while the committee — only for one department. Below are excerpts from the documents.

Something else is notable here. If we believe the prosecutor«s office»s response, through simple mathematical calculations, it can be deduced that 17 out of 26 inhabitants were injured between June 26 and October 17 — less than 3 months.

However, the Regional Committee of Social Protection stated that the statistics include minor injuries as well. The committee clarified that each case is handled according to regulations: it is reported to law enforcement, and the victim is sent for examination to a hospital.

«It is important to note that in 2025, there were no injuries requiring hospitalization for further treatment. The mentioned statistics include all types of injuries, including minor ones, which residents may receive during attempts at independent movement. Each case is individually considered by the staff of specialized institutions. Elderly residents of the intensive care unit (where citizens needing constant care, partially or completely immobile with complex combined diseases are located) of the Volzhsky PNI (currently the Volzhsky Social Service House) by age and health condition belong to a high-risk group for possible falls and injuries, also some recipients are recognized as needing palliative medical care, require constant external care and medication support.»

Earlier, the daughter of the deceased pensioner, Ksenia Yupatova, complained about the work of the nursing home: according to the woman, who buried her mother six months after her admission to the psychoneurological institution, the staff of the boarding house irresponsibly approached their duties, which could have led to the death of her relative.

About the difficult situation with patients and repeated cases of injuries, a former employee of this institution also stated, and one of the supposed reasons for potential oversights, according to the Volgograd Regional Prosecutor«s Office, could be overtime work and a serious shortage of staff in the organization. This was previously reported by the supervisory authority.
