Third person dies from 'mouse fever' in Ulyanovsk Region

The situation regarding mouse fever remains tense in the Ulyanovsk Region.
A third fatal case of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), commonly known as «mouse fever», has been registered in the Ulyanovsk Region since the beginning of the year, the regional Rospotrebnadzor (Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) reported. Preliminary information indicates the death occurred in a hospital in the regional capital, Ulyanovsk. Details are being clarified.
As earlier reported, a 38-year-old resident of Inza and a 55-year-old resident of Dimitrovgrad also died from «mouse fever». Governor Aleksey Russkikh has called for more attention to be paid to timely medical check-ups for the population.
To prevent «mouse fever», Rospotrebnadzor specialists recommend ventilating rooms more frequently and carrying out wet cleaning with disinfectants. All food should be stored in tightly sealed containers that are inaccessible to rodents. Do not consume food that has been damaged or contaminated by rodents, even after heat treatment.
If symptoms appear (sudden high fever, pain in the lower back and abdomen, nausea, vomiting) — seek medical attention immediately.
