In Izhevsk, a patient with a brain tumor that was destroying his skull was successfully operated on. This was reported by the press service of the regional health ministry.
According to the department, a man with a strange bump on his forehead came to City Clinical Hospital No. 7 in Izhevsk. The patient said that nothing was bothering him. Except that the bump, which appeared on his forehead about three weeks ago after he hit his head, did not want to go away and only increased in size.
Based on the results of a computed tomography scan, a tumor was diagnosed in the man. The neoplasm was already destroying the frontal bone of his skull.
«Despite the superficial location of the lesion, the clinical case was not simple. One edge of the tumor lay over the largest vein of the brain. The other edge of the formation was destroying the walls of the frontal sinuses, creating a connection between the cranial cavity, the nasal cavity, and further – with the external environment. This is always dangerous due to the development of purulent complications,» commented the press service of the Udmurtia Health Ministry.
The patient was urgently transferred to the neurosurgery department of City Clinical Hospital No. 7. He faced a complex operation. It was performed by neurosurgeons Vladimir Pashkin and Olga Murashova. They managed to completely remove the tumor, preserving all important vessels, clean the affected frontal sinuses, and restore the forehead bone with a titanium plate.
Currently, the man has already been discharged from the hospital. His condition is satisfactory.
