Krasnoyarsk dentists warn against homemade fillings from online platforms

Damage to teeth due to self-treatment, including homemade fillings purchased on marketplaces, is being detected more frequently among Krasnoyarsk residents. This was reported by the press service of the Federal Siberian Scientific and Clinical Center of FMBA.

Patients are found to have micro-damage to enamel, hidden cracks, and gum inflammation. Often, teeth are damaged due to whitening strips and highly concentrated pastes with aggressive chemical components, as well as ultrasonic cleaning devices without cooling functions, the center explained. Another common cause is homemade fillings from marketplaces, which can be installed at home but do not eliminate bacteria and continue to destroy teeth.

The press service of FSNKC told NGS24.RU that they do not have statistics on visits, but since the beginning of the year, such cases are increasing.

«Self-treatment is among the top 10 reasons for visiting a dentist. Moreover, patients are often surprised and say that they try to regularly visit specialists. Micro-damage to enamel and hidden cracks caused by home procedures are often not noticeable during a standard examination. To detect them, a dental microscope is required, that is, high-precision equipment,» says Yevgenia Lukyanova, head of the dental clinic at FSNKC.

The center added that attempts at self-treatment or dental care without professional tools and adherence to sterility are fraught with serious complications, including inflammatory processes in the hard tissues of teeth and periodontium, as well as the oral mucosa.
