Infection outbreak in Kostroma Region after water pipe repairs

An infection outbreak was reported in a village following repairs to the water main.
An infection outbreak has occurred in the Kostroma Region, which neighbors Yaroslavl Oblast. Nearly 30 residents of the village of Sholokhovo in the Krasnoselsky District felt unwell after water pipe repairs were carried out in the settlement. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.
Water samples were taken for analysis by health and safety inspectors.
“According to the investigation, residents of the village of Sholokhovo have shown signs of an acute infectious disease after the water pipe repair work in the settlement. Preliminary information indicates that eight adults and twenty minors sought medical help,” the department said on January 28.
Investigators have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 238 of the Russian Criminal Code (performing work or providing services that do not meet safety requirements for the life or health of consumers). Law enforcement officers have already obtained explanations from the head of the resource-supplying organization and a representative of the administration of the Krasnoselsky District, and have inspected the well and the site of the water pipe burst.
“Employees of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) have taken water samples, which have been sent for analysis. At present, the investigation is studying the necessary documentation and conducting a set of investigative actions aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident,” the Investigative Committee said.
