Food violations at Sochi hotel linked to norovirus

The children came to train, but many fell ill during the outbreak.
At the Loo-Arena hotel in the Lazarevsky district of Sochi, where footballers from Chelyabinsk caught norovirus at the beginning of the month, violations were found in the organization of children«s meals. The results of the investigation were reported on Friday, January 23, by TASS with reference to the Krasnodar department of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing).
«Violations of sanitary-epidemiological legislation and legislation in the field of technical regulation have been identified. As a result, administrative offense cases have been initiated,» clarified the department.
Norovirus gastroenteritis is an acute intestinal infection. Norovirus genotype II causes the development of acute intestinal infection in 90% of cases. The source of infection is a sick person, the incubation period is 12–48 hours, the duration of the illness is 2–5 days. Viruses can be excreted not only during illness but also in the first days after recovery. Hidden carriage is possible, lasting several months. Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Recall that the outbreak of infection became known on January 7. Our colleagues from SOCHI1.RU reported that the Investigative Committee initiated a criminal case under the article on providing services that do not meet safety requirements (Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Local Rospotrebnadzor identified the pathogen — norovirus infection genotype II. The department assured that all children are under round-the-clock medical supervision and receive necessary treatment. At that time, a group of 80 children from Chelyabinsk was staying at the hotel, among whom there were also those who fell ill.
