Dentist explains how energy drinks nearly cost student his teeth

A student from Nizhny Novgorod almost lost his teeth at the age of 18. For two weeks, he drank energy drinks non-stop and as a result severely damaged his enamel. The horrifying case was commented on by dentist Polina Ovcharenko from the Privolzhsky District Medical Center of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), who handled this complex case.

The doctor explained that oral health is influenced by a whole set of factors: genetic characteristics, diet, hygiene quality, and features of the dental-jaw system. In addition to everything else, the Nizhny Novgorod resident who nearly lost his teeth was in an extremely stressful situation: he was taking exams.
“Excessive consumption of energy drinks, which contain high acidity, led to the too rapid destruction of hard dental tissues,” explained Polina Ovcharenko.
According to her, the young man had nerves removed from his front upper teeth, damaged teeth were restored with fillings, and brown plaque was cleaned through professional hygiene. To avoid getting into a similar situation, doctors recommend drinking energy drinks through straws and rinsing the mouth with water after beverages with high sugar content. And even better — not to consume them at all.
“Try to minimize the use of energy drinks, or better yet, give them up altogether. And at least once every six months, visit dentists even just for caries prevention and hygiene,” concluded the dentist.
Earlier we reported that in Nizhny Novgorod, doctors performed a unique combined operation and saved the life of a father of three. The man was diagnosed with a tumor in the walls of the gastrointestinal tract, the metastases of which had already affected the liver.
