The crew of the Orenburg air ambulance managed to transport a 21-year-old man to the regional center under extremely difficult conditions; he was injured in a garage fire in the village of Kalinin, Tashlinsky district.
The situation was critical: the patient had 70% burns and thermal inhalation injury after the emergency, and every hour of delay reduced his chances of survival. Despite the thermometer dropping to -27 degrees Celsius (approximately -17°F), medics were able to deliver the young man to Orenburg using mechanical ventilation right on board the helicopter.
«We express huge thanks to anesthesiologist-resuscitator Andrey Fedichev and nurse anesthetist Natalya Trushova, and all those who participated in this difficult task. Your endurance, professionalism, and ability to provide aid in the cramped helicopter cabin at such temperatures — this is a real feat,» the crew was thanked at the Tashlinsky District Hospital.
It is worth noting that last year, the regional air ambulance made over 550 call-outs, 140 flights, and nearly 150 on-site operations. Patient care is provided by a team of anesthesiologists-resuscitators, neurosurgeons, and cardiovascular surgeons from the regional hospital named after V. I. Voinov. Specialists from the Regional Children«s Clinical Hospital are involved in evacuating children.
