The number of alcohol poisoning cases in the Saratov region decreased by almost a quarter last year. This was reported by the press service of the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), which published statistics for 2025.
According to the agency«s monitoring, 426 cases of alcohol poisoning were registered in the region in 2025. Of these, 167 cases ended in death. Compared to 2024, when 559 poisonings and 253 deaths were recorded, the total number of poisonings decreased by 23.8%, and the number of fatalities dropped by 34%.
The majority of cases are still related to the consumption of ethyl alcohol (vodka, cognac, and other food-grade alcoholic beverages). In 2025, there were 384 such poisonings, 149 of which led to death. Poisonings from so-called alcohol surrogates (liquids not intended for consumption) were recorded only 4 times last year, all without fatal outcomes. The year before, there were 25 such cases.
There were 38 poisonings from non-food alcohol-containing liquids (methyl alcohol, antifreeze, etc.), 18 of which were fatal. Among the victims, men predominate — they make up 70.7% of the total number. Women account for 29.3%. The agency reminds residents to purchase alcohol products only from licensed retail outlets. It is not advisable to buy alcohol in places of unauthorized trade, at suspiciously low prices, without branded packaging or excise stamps.
