In the second-largest city of Ulyanovsk Oblast, a 55-year-old man has died from mouse fever, according to a post on the Telegram channel of Dimitrovgrad head Sergei Sandryukov. The mayor said the situation with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) remains serious. Thirty-seven cases were registered in the past week.

— Dimitrovgrad and Melekessky District are natural foci for the spread of HFRS. Outbreaks of this disease occur periodically. Last year«s warm autumn contributed to an increase in the rodent population, which are carriers of the dangerous infection, — emphasized Sergei Sandryukov.

As emphasized by the head of the regional Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing), Elena Dubovitskaya, cases of mouse fever are also being recorded in Inzensky and Baryshsky districts. According to the head of the agency, residents of Ulyanovsk should disinfect bedding, all surfaces in homes, and under no circumstances consume food that has been in contact with rodents.

The Ulyanovsk Oblast Ministry of Health reminded that the main problem with hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome is that it is difficult to diagnose in the early stages. The disease starts like a common acute respiratory infection, and the person simply does not realize the danger of their condition. Only later do kidney damage, body intoxication, and intravascular coagulation in the form of clots occur, blocking the normal regulation of all systems.

Governor Alexei Russkikh once again emphasized the importance of conducting medical check-ups for early detection and prevention of disease development.

— I have instructed municipal heads to assist in organizing medical check-ups. We continue to create comfortable conditions in primary care for conducting preventive examinations: last year alone, we renovated 18 polyclinics, — emphasized the regional head.

Recall that this is already the second fatal case of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. On January 11, a 38-year-old patient also died from the dangerous disease at the Ulyanovsk Central City Clinical Hospital. The Ulyanovsk resident attempted to self-treat and sought hospital care too late.
