In Volgograd, part of Zero Longitudinal will be closed for an athletics run dedicated to the 83rd anniversary of the defeat of German-fascist troops by Soviet forces in the Battle of Stalingrad, according to the city administration.

The section of road along Zero Longitudinal from Marshal Krylov Street to Komsomolskaya Street will be closed to traffic this Sunday, February 1. A pedestrian zone will be in effect from 07:00 to 14:00.
Details on how the sporting event will proceed were provided by the mayor«s office.
«The route of the 79th athletics run, dedicated to the 83rd anniversary of the defeat of German-fascist troops by Soviet forces in the Battle of Stalingrad, will go along the 62nd Army Embankment from the intersection with Komsomolskaya Street to the Volgograd Arena stadium,» clarified the administration. «The start and finish of the run will be set up at the BK-31 Armored Boat memorial complex. The event will begin at 10:00 with a flower-laying ceremony at the memorial sign for the Heroes of the Volga Military Flotilla. Athletes will start the 1-kilometer distance at 10:30. A mandatory requirement is medical clearance. Participation in the event is free.»
The administration also specified which other sporting events dedicated to the Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad will take place in the near future.
«Thus, from January 29 to February 1, the volleyball championship for girls born in 2014–2015 is being held in the gym of the Volgograd College of Management and New Technologies named after Yuri Gagarin. Similar competitions for boys will take place on February 5–8. On January 31, cross-country skiing races will be held at the Zenit sports complex. Anyone with sports equipment can participate in the event, which starts at 10:00. On February 3–4, the open Volgograd championship in artistic gymnastics will take place in the hall of sports school No. 1. Participants in these traditional events will include about 150 pupils from municipal sports institutions aged 7 to 18.»
Recall that just yesterday, traffic was blocked on another Longitudinal — the third one. Then, according to eyewitnesses, a traffic jam stretched for almost 2 kilometers, caused by a truck that went into a ditch.
