Siberia lives up to its reputation: cosmonaut shows frosty Irkutsk from orbit

Cosmonaut and Hero of Russia Anton Shkaplerov has reminded everyone what frosty Irkutsk looks like from orbit, publishing the snapshot on his Telegram channel.

«Winter is now in full swing, frosts are intensifying across our country, and Siberia, as always, lives up to its reputation. From orbit, Irkutsk looks especially graphic: the dark ribbon of the Angara River confidently cuts through the snowy city, the blocks are neatly arranged, and all around — boundless expanses in which one feels the scale and calm strength,» wrote Anton Shkaplerov.
The cosmonaut also noted that Irkutsk is turning 365 this year. According to him, the capital of the Angara region is «one of the main cultural and scientific centers of Eastern Siberia, a city with a rich history, wooden architecture, and a special character.»
«Right nearby is our legendary Baikal, the deepest and one of the cleanest lakes on the planet, a true natural treasure of the Earth. The Irkutsk region is a land of the most beautiful nature and strong people with incredibly broad souls,» the cosmonaut added.
