Yugra to Crown Best Reindeer Herders in Festival Competitions
National holidays in Yugra always attract a large number of guests
The professional skills competition among reindeer herders for the Governor of Yugra Cup will be held in Khanty-Mansiysk on February 28. The festival will take place at the Filipenko Winter Sports Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Athletes will demonstrate strength of spirit, experience, and skill in reindeer sled races, ski races, and hunting skis. They will show agility and technique in stacking and transporting firewood on a sledge, in harnessing and unharnessing reindeer, and in throwing a lasso (tynzyan) onto a khorey (a reindeer herding pole).
Reindeer herder competitions have been held in Yugra since 2014. One of the goals is to enhance the prestige of this profession and attract young people to the region«s traditional industry. Winners of the professional skills competition receive valuable prizes; last year, these were snowmobiles and electrical appliances.
Guests will be able to sample national dishes, take reindeer sled rides, immerse themselves in the Northern atmosphere, and enjoy vivid experiences. Craft workshops will be operating, and creative groups will perform.
