Viewers disappointed as screenwriters ruin Dusheguby season 2
The main character is portrayed more as a weary investigator than a bold detective.
Four years ago, amid growing interest in Soviet serial killers, the first season of «Dusheguby» (18+) was released. The dark story about a strangler in Vitebsk was liked by viewers, and the series was renewed. Fans of investigator Ipatyev eagerly awaited the continuation, but what they got in the end did not please them at all.
What the second season of the series «Dusheguby» is about
In the second season of «Dusheguby», the events take place in 1989. The main character, investigator Ipatyev played by Sergei Marin, is transferred to Moscow for special merits. In the capital, he faces a difficult task — to find two serial killers at once, whereas in the first season he caught only one. He will work in a pair with another investigator — Kovalsky, played by Maxim Stoyanov.
First of all, they need to find the cannibal Samoilov who escaped from a psychiatric hospital. His treating doctor Bazhenov, despite objections from colleagues, was sure that he could help the patient. One day, he loosened the security, and the criminal ended up free.
After the escape, murders begin to occur in Moscow. Someone sends an ordinary worker Gavrilov a box with a severed female head and a note with threats. Suspicion falls on Samoilov, but Ipatyev quickly realizes that the modus operandi is different. Another criminal has appeared in the city, but who he is remains to be discovered.
The creators immediately note that, like the first season, the series is based on real events. The image of Samoilov is based on the Kazakh cannibal Nikolai Dzhumagaliev, known as the Iron Fang. He suffered from schizophrenia and, driven by an obsessive idea to become a superhuman, killed women. After his arrest in 1979, he confessed to at least 10 murders, but it is suspected that there were many more. The serial killer was declared insane and sent to a psychiatric hospital, from which he escaped just like the series character in 1989. He was hunted for a year and a half and was only found after one of the thefts.
For the image of the second serial killer, they used the Kishinev murderer Alexander Skrynnik — the Moldovan Chikatilo. For several years, he killed and dismembered girls, and after capture, he was executed by firing squad.
How the second season of the series «Dusheguby» ended
After the escape, the cannibal Samoilov kidnaps the wife of his psychiatrist Galina. In the season finale, Ipatyev and Kovalsky found him, but they did not manage to save the woman. The cannibal himself, realizing that he would be locked up in the hospital again, chooses a different fate for himself — and burns himself alive.
In the last episodes, Ipatyev manages to find out who was sending boxes with body parts to the Gavrilov family. The murderer turned out to be a family friend Grigory Radionov. The man was taking revenge on Fyodor for the death of his girlfriend Yana, who was Gavrilov«s mistress and died after their breakup. During the capture, Radionov manages to take Gavrilov»s daughter hostage and wounds her, but the operatives manage to get her out alive and send Grigory into custody.
What viewers are writing about the second season of the series «Dusheguby»
In reviews, viewers note that the second season became much darker and more bloodthirsty than the first, and combined with the fact that the story is based on real events, it was really scary for some to watch.
— I watched the second part without stopping, all episodes. Although there were very predictable plots, I even argued with my husband, I immediately guessed the second serial killer, but still everything was watched with tension and empathy for the positive characters, — writes one of the viewers after watching.
Some thought that the second season, despite the well-developed atmosphere, turned out weaker than the first because the creators devoted a lot of time not to investigations, but to the personal problems of the main characters.
— With stories about an already known serial killer, it«s harder to maintain intrigue at the proper level, so they introduced quite a lot of secondary lines. Almost all the drama was built on the personal stories of the characters, not on the investigation. And Radionov this time was presented too caricaturally, in the first season the serial killer wasn»t so easily readable, — one of the viewers is disappointed.
— Was it worth eagerly waiting for the second season of the series «Dusheguby» to see such low-grade nonsense? Not even my favorite Sergei Marin in the lead role saved the situation, against the general gray background his lazy acting did not impress at all, — wrote in the reviews. — The hand of another director is visible, it was filmed hastily, many unthought-out details. It feels like instead of a bright feature film, I watched a dark criminal chronicle.
Especially from the fans, the series got it for the finale. Many thought that in the last episodes they tried to cram too much, which resulted in a chaotic mess, not an engaging detective story.
— Our screenwriters know how to ruin a finale — the season turned out great, interesting and tense, but in the finale everything happens so quickly, and it«s not enough, there»s no interaction between the characters, and everyone treats each other with some indifference, and that«s not how it should be, — they say in comments to the series.
However, there were also those who were still impressed by the second season. Especially many such among those who did not watch the first and only plan to do so.
— The series turned out dynamic, with its own special atmosphere, with a twisted bloody plot, with excellent acting by the actors in the main roles. The filming is high-quality, the picture is clear. Scary shots of corpses are partially blurred. There are photographs, documents, which I suspect are real and documentary. And that makes the story more bitter and scarier, — shared impressions one of the viewers.
