Krasnoyarsk has emerged from the Epiphany frosts, and in the coming days, according to the service «Weather. NGS24.RU», the city will see classic winter temperatures of -21 to -24°C (-6 to -11°F). In the second half of the week, warming will begin: from -16°C (3°F) on Thursday, January 29, to -2°C (28°F) on Saturday, January 31. Then, forecasters predict temperature swings. This is easier to endure than days consistently below -40°C (-40°F). But hardened residents didn«t wait for the warming and have already gone to boost their health with winter swimming. There, they were met by photojournalist Masha Lents of NGS24.RU. See her photo report from the banks of the Yenisei River and its surroundings: images that will make you feel good — because you»re warm.

Authorities prohibit swimming in most areas, but dedicated spots allow for the practice.

While some enjoy the warm — relative to the air temperature — water, others are working hard, clearing snow.

Engaging in physical work like snow removal helps people stay warm outdoors.

In the water, it«s still good, but you need to get out quickly. Before the adrenaline in your body cools down.

A quick plunge into the icy water leaves swimmers feeling refreshed and invigorated.

The main thing at this time is not to admire the beautiful frozen landscapes.

The frozen scenery could serve as a backdrop for a story about an ice age.

This is what the very center of the million-strong city looks like — the bridge, the Lighthouse, a frozen channel, and not a soul.

Although no — people are still here, and they keep everything clean.

But farther from the Yenisei, where vapors no longer freeze so beautifully on trees and houses, the city under unfavorable meteorological conditions (NMC) looks quite harsh.

Combined smog and vapor create a soft-focus effect in the photographic images.
