Couple's Freediving Reveals Lake Dangers: Nets and Snags
Alexey and Maria Levkiny are a freediving couple from Nizhny Novgorod Oblast who are passionate about exploring underwater depths. They regularly dive to the bottom of the most picturesque lakes and share the most serene footage. NN.RU spoke with the couple and learned how they came to this path, whether it interferes with family life, and what secrets the bottom of local lakes holds.
The decision to take up underwater filming was spontaneous for them — Alexey bought an action camera and tried to capture the beauty of the underwater world during a regular swim. To the surprise of the Nizhny Novgorod residents, the footage started going viral quickly online, and then the man decided to go back to the lake.
The underwater abyss is an interesting but also frightening phenomenon. However, as the Nizhny Novgorod residents admit, in three years of their hobby, nothing overtly scary has been encountered. But it has been creepy at times.
“In freediving, it«s generally scary to dive in cloudy weather because it»s darker underwater than on land. When you dive underwater in such weather, you«re enveloped by an endless blue darkness. But we think that the main danger for a freediver is fishing nets and snags that you can get caught on,” emphasizes Alexey.
The Levkinys devote a lot of time to the hobby, but so far, income comes mostly from their main jobs. Maria works in education, and Alexey is a metallurgist. The Nizhny Novgorod resident says that for him and his wife, freediving is an extra reason to spend time together and have fun in a beautiful atmosphere.
The blog has only brought the spouses closer, and it also teaches them to overcome difficulties together and get out of tricky situations. The main secret of the Levkinys« family life is to devote minimal time and maximum effort to household chores to save more time for everything else.
