In Volgograd Oblast, a number of schools have switched to distance learning due to persistent severe frosts. The decision was made by the region«s education committee.
An abnormal cold snap has been observed in the oblast since January 23. Low temperatures have already led to the cancellation of several outdoor events, while schoolchildren continued classes as usual.
As explained by the department, there are no uniform standards regulating the cancellation of classes due to weather conditions. Each municipality makes such decisions independently.
«Due to climate peculiarities and varying temperature levels, as well as the territorial location of districts, standards are set by municipalities. The situation is monitored throughout the day and is under the control of the education committee,» the department stated. «Operating normally are all schools in: Gorodishchensky, Dubovsky, Kalachevsky, Kamyshinsky, Kletsky, Kotelnikovsky, Kumylzhensky, Novoanninsky, Novonikolaevsky, Oktyabrsky, Staropoltavsky, Surovikinsky, Chernyshkovsky districts, as well as the cities of Kamyshin, Uryupinsk, and Frolovo. In other municipalities, due to frosts, some classes or schools have been partially switched to distance learning.»
According to the forecast by the Volgograd Central Hydrometeorological Service, extremely low temperatures are expected on January 27 and 28. Subsequently, warming is expected in the region.
