Volgograd School Cuts Lessons Short Due to Cold

At Secondary School No. 134 «Darovanie» (Giftedness) in Volgograd, the length of lessons has been shortened since the beginning of the school week due to a fault in the heating system.
As reported by an anonymous parent of a student, many classrooms, for example the technology room, are so cold that children are freezing even in their outdoor clothes. According to him, a significant number of parents have refused to bring their children to school because of the low temperatures.
«The child says it was as cold there as it is outside,» the father quoted the schoolboy. «On Friday, attending lessons was made voluntary, but today they weren»t officially canceled, only a recommendation was given to dress warmly and bring blankets.«
The school«s director confirmed there were heating problems but clarified that it was not cold in all rooms. »On the first floor, yes, it was cool,« she said. »We shortened the lessons, and in the elementary grades we introduced five-minute warm-up exercises so the children could get warm. Today, technical specialists tried to fix the malfunction, but so far without success: the supply line is hot, but the return line is cold. If the situation doesn«t change by tomorrow, the lessons will remain shortened.»
The press service of the «Concessions of Heat Supply» company stated that, from the organization«s side, heat supply to the school is operating in a regular mode. »The resource is being supplied in full to this address. No reports of a lack of heating have been received, and no work has been carried out,« they explained.
A request for clarification on the incident«s circumstances has been sent to the administration of Volgograd.
