Last week, Surgut authorities changed the temperature threshold for declaring a cold day, making it more lenient. However, today students complained again that despite the severe cold, in-person classes were canceled only up to 8th grade, not 11th.

“What«s the point of changing the criteria if we still have to go freeze?” fumed a high school student.

“Then don«t give false hopes,” supported another.

“By eight o«clock, when we»ll be going to school, it will already be -33°C (-27°F), which is enough for a cold day, but they base it on six o«clock, when everyone is cozy in bed,” noted Ezefta.

“-32°C (-26°F) is an unacceptable temperature, but -31°C (-24°F) is a breeze on the seashore,” Dmitry said ironically.

“Apparently, no one cares that by 8 a.m. the temperature will be even lower,” a student said disappointedly.

“Let them change it, my room is freezing, I barely got out of bed,” added Milena.

“The actual air temperature and wind speed at 06:00 on 20 January met the criteria set for declaring a cold day for 1st to 8th grades of the first shift. The air temperature was -30.1°C (-22°F), wind speed — 4 m/s. Meteorological data comes from a weather station located in Surgut, which is the official and sole source of information on weather conditions,” the press service responded.

They also added that the use of such subjective factors as ‘feels-like temperature’ is not provided for by law, and when a cold day is declared, the final decision on a child attending school is made by parents. However, it is important to notify the homeroom teacher.

Recall that information about cold days can be obtained on administration websites, the official city channel in MAX, and from media.
