School No. 4 in Baley is freezing — in some classrooms, the temperature reaches 13-14 degrees Celsius (55-57°F), parents of students reported to the correspondent of Chita.Ru on January 29. The school principal said that the building has long needed a major repair.
According to parents, classes at the school due to the frost start at 11:00 AM.
As clarified by the school principal, there are no issues with the city«s boiler house. A similar situation repeats almost every winter, but this year the frosts have been particularly severe. The temperature in the classrooms varies: in some classes it reaches 18–20 degrees Celsius (64-68°F), but there are rooms where thermometers show 13–14 degrees Celsius (55-57°F).
«Because the building is old itself, the frames and windows are in very poor condition, so it»s cold. We are waiting for a major repair. The school was built in 1952 and has never had a major repair,« the principal said.
According to her, the local education committee is aware of the problem. A commission visited the educational institution several days ago, and the possibility of carrying out work to repair or replace the windows is being considered.
According to the principal, lessons are proceeding in the usual mode — heaters are installed in the classrooms, and with their help, they try to maintain the temperature at an acceptable level.
From January 30, due to low air temperatures, the school is introducing distance learning for students from 1st to 9th grades.
