Moscow Schools to Select Colors from New Design Options

In Moscow, educational institutions participating in the «My School» reconstruction program will have more opportunities for individuality. City authorities have presented two new options for updating facades and interiors. Now schools will be able to decide for themselves how their buildings, corridors, classrooms, cafeterias, and gyms will look.
As reported by Anastasia Rakova, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Issues, the reconstruction program started several years ago. The first 55 schools were designed in a turquoise-lime color scheme. However, it became clear that teachers and students want more variety. The new designs offer bright combinations of shades.
We aimed to approach space organization in a new way so that the environment promotes productive learning, creative development, and full rest, being friendly and aesthetic. As the «My School» project was implemented, we realized that there is a need for variety in color solutions so that each school can choose an option that better suits its spirit and established atmosphere. Now the program offers two more new color solutions — with orange-green or yellow-green accents, said the deputy mayor of the capital.
The interior spaces of schools will be designed in calm, muted tones. According to psychologists, such shades help children concentrate better in lessons. Bright colors will appear in recreation areas — on furniture, acoustic panels, and decorative elements. According to Oksana Korchagina, a teacher-psychologist at the City Psychological and Pedagogical Center, such an environment is comfortable for studying and at the same time allows for switching to rest during breaks.
Calm, muted colors in school interiors help students concentrate better in lessons. They do not distract attention or overload vision, creating a comfortable learning environment, added Oksana Korchagina.
In addition to the new design, schools in the capital are set to receive modern equipment. There will be laboratories with 3D printers and digital microscopes, IT polygons for assembling robots. Instead of traditional libraries, media libraries will be equipped, and assembly halls will be replaced with multifunctional atriums. For comfort, corridors will have soft furniture, drinking fountains, and bright lockers for personal belongings.
Sports halls will get special shock-absorbing flooring, and cafeterias will resemble modern cafes. On school grounds, sports and playgrounds will be updated, with comfortable benches and bicycle parking installed.
Recall that the «My School» program has already transformed 55 buildings. By September 1, 2026, dozens more renovated schools are planned to open across the city.
