Cracks and Groundwater Plague New Zabaykalsky School

State Duma deputy Andrey Gurulev reported on problems at the new school in the village of Mogzon, Khiloksky District, Zabaykalsky Krai: groundwater is entering the basement. Gurulev wrote about this on his Telegram channel on January 20.

Construction of the 620-place school-kindergarten on piles began in Mogzon in 2019, and contractors even then did not want to start work on the site due to its complexity. The sole participant and winner of the repeated auction for building construction became the company Dom 2000 LLC from Ulan-Ude (known, among other things, for constructing the new Regional Children«s Clinical Hospital in Chita), and the previous contractor Megastroykompleks was removed from the project by the Ministry of Construction of Zabaykalsky Krai due to falling behind schedule. Russian Railways allocated 61.4% of the total cost of the school.
«The school has been in operation for three years. Today, 408 children study here, the facility is large, one of the largest schools in the region, about 22,000 square meters. Modern, cozy, beautiful, truly a good educational space. But, alas, it was not without problems. A serious issue today is groundwater. Water is entering the basement, cracks have already appeared on the walls. If the situation is not addressed, over time the building will start to shift, and the consequences could be extremely unpleasant,» the deputy reported.
According to him, a logical question arises: who and how accepted the facility into operation and why was this particular site chosen for construction?
«The regional government is aware of the problem, but as of today, no specific measures have been taken. And it»s not just about the use of budget funds, but about the safety of children and school staff,« added Andrey Gurulev.
The editorial board of Chita.Ru requested a comment on the situation from the press service of the Zabaykalsky Krai government.
In the summer of 2024, it became known that the Audit Chamber of Zabaykalsky Krai, on the governor«s instruction, assessed the quality of construction organization for the school-kindergarten opened in autumn 2023 in the village of Mogzon and revealed a multitude of shortcomings and defects requiring elimination, and they led to a cost overrun of 62.9%.
