Achinsk Students Complain to Mizulina About Cold School, Administration Responds

Students from Achinsk complained to Yekaterina Mizulina about the heating in School No. 3. The post with the complaint was published by the head of the Safe Internet League.

‘We study at School No. 3 in Achinsk, Krasnoyarsk Krai. The school is cold, there«s no heating, in the warmest classrooms it»s –8°C (18°F). Teachers don«t allow warm clothing, let alone jackets, citing sanitary regulations (SanPiN). What should we do in such situations? We don»t want to get sick, exams are coming up…’ — they write in Mizulina«s chat.

The school told an NGS24.RU correspondent that the classrooms are not at –8 degrees, but slightly below +18°C (64°F) and only in some of them.

‘Well, we don«t have –8 degrees, that»s for sure! Of course, we have some classrooms where it«s below +18 degrees. We ensure that children never change into indoor shoes at school, but walk in the shoes they came in. And we never forbid them from dressing warmly. We even require them to be dressed warmly.’

‘And our homeroom teachers work with parents to ensure children are dressed warmly both on the way to school and at school. We check how everyone is dressed when they leave or arrive.’

‘High school students undress on their own, but when they enter classrooms, the subject teacher or homeroom teacher monitors how the children are dressed and sends them to put on outerwear if necessary. We have this system in place,’ explained school director Maria Kiseleva.

When asked why there are classrooms in the school where the temperature is below +18 degrees, we were told the following:

‘Generally, all our radiators are hot, our windows are installed. But the wall itself is concrete. It«s a concrete school, not brick. The walls themselves have already frozen. And our heating is all connected, all hot. We monitor it. And the supply to the school is within acceptable limits and meets the norm. We don»t really need additional help. We have electrical appliances working, warm air circulating. We have a pump in the basement, we installed it so that hot water circulates through the system,’ explains the school director.

Meanwhile, the frost is in no hurry to leave Krasnoyarsk Krai. Over the weekend, it will be warmer in the regional center, but still cold — details in the material.
