In Russia, a proposal has been made to increase the child subsistence minimum to the level of real average expenses for child support. State Duma deputy Alexander Aksenenko sent this appeal to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

“I ask you, dear Mikhail Vladimirovich, to consider the possibility of amending the current legal regulations to set the amount of the subsistence minimum for children, with the aim of strengthening social stability and stimulating demographic growth,” the letter is quoted by RIA Novosti.

The deputy reminded that the subsistence minimum for children is 17,201 rubles (approximately $181 at current rates), while family expenses for preparing one child for school in 2024 reached 53,548 rubles (approximately $564).

The document proposes to set the subsistence minimum for children at no less than 25,000 rubles (approximately $263). As Aksenenko noted, this will increase the targeting and effectiveness of family support and contribute to creating comfortable conditions for improving the demographic situation.
