Ryazan Astronomer Says Northern Lights Could Return Tonight
The northern lights were visible in cities of the Ryazan region
On the night of January 20, residents of Ryazan were able to see the northern lights in the Ryazan sky. This was reported to the editorial office by reader YA62.RU Matvey Vorontsov, who even shared his footage.
«I was incredibly lucky with the weather, so I am absolutely happy that I managed to rush outside and record live video of the real aurora before it was once again covered by merciless clouds. It was perfectly visible to the naked eye, and the video has no additional processing,» he shared his emotions.
About what is connected with the appearance of the northern lights in the Ryazan region, astronomer Natalia Andrievskaya from RZNASTRO told YA62.RU journalist:
«A solar flare occurred on the evening of January 18, the ejection was directed towards Earth. The flare was powerful, the solar wind speed was high — that»s why it reached us last night.«
The astronomer also shared that the northern lights were observed all over Russia, but it was best visible in the more southern regions of the country.
According to Natalia Andrievskaya, this is not the end, and such natural beauty may appear again on the night of January 21:
«This storm is not over yet, according to forecasts, there is a chance for the aurora to repeat tonight. According to forecasts, it will be weaker, but there is a chance for visual observation.»
