Omsk Residents Outraged by Chemical Smog Hanging Over City

Residents of Omsk reacted strongly to the words of expert Roman Pukalov, head of environmental programs for the All-Russian Public Organization «Green Patrol,» who explained why the city is drowning in chemical fog and whether this is normal. Since the beginning of the week, residents have complained of a sharp smell of burning in the air, and in the evenings, the streets are shrouded in smog so thick it is hard to breathe.
The specialist said this should not be the case, and during normal fog, breathing is easy. The cause of the smog is a temperature inversion, which traps warm air containing all pollutants, including industrial emissions, near the ground, preventing it from dispersing.
«The true owners of Omsk»s plants should be made to live in Omsk with their families, and the city«s air will be clean,» Omsk residents suggested in the comments under the publication.
«In Omsk, it»s winter, freezing cold, traffic jams, heating problems, and now you can«t even breathe,» users fumed.
«Soon we»ll be walking around in gas masks, and that will be the norm.«
«Omsk residents are being poisoned like cockroaches.»
«Government officials, get the emissions under control, starting with Thermal Power Plant No. 5.»
«How will they get the emissions from Thermal Power Plant No. 5 under control? It»s belching black smoke over the entire city while producing heating water with the required parameters using existing equipment and coal. To get things in order, they could start by refusing to use low-quality fuel and find other suppliers,« the city residents believe.
We reported earlier that residents of various districts of Omsk are complaining of feeling unwell due to the chemical smog enveloping the city.
