The Omsk prosecutor«s office has proposed an initiative that should improve air quality in the region. The innovation will force industrial enterprises to act differently during periods of unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC). On such days, emissions from chimneys do not disperse but hang in the air as smog.
The new law will require enterprises to reduce harmful emissions as soon as they receive a special forecast of such weather from the Ministry of Natural Resources. The largest plants will have to have their own plans on how to do this. After the law is adopted, all enterprises will have to revise their environmental documents to comply with the new requirements.
«The bill was signed by the regional prosecutor Alexey Yevgenyevich Afanasyev and sent for adoption to the Legislative Assembly of Omsk Region,» the department explained.
In early January, the Omsk Regional Court obliged a company from Sargatsky District to reduce air emissions.
