During a live broadcast on Thursday, January 22, Kuzbass Governor Ilya Seredyuk answered a question from NGS42.RU about air pollution in Kemerovo. He outlined the measures that will be taken this year to combat smog.

The regional head emphasized that complaints about toxic fog are coming even from remote villages with no industrial facilities.

To address the issue, he contacted Kemerovo Mayor Dmitry Anisimov by phone. The city head stated that he plans to continue last year«s practice of on-site inspections with public participation at plants such as Azot, Koks, and KemTETS. The commission examined purification facilities and observed the technical processes.

According to official statistics, the number of days with unfavorable meteorological conditions has decreased over the year. In the mayor«s opinion, this was aided by a program to gasify the private sector. In 2025, 2,700 homes were switched to the new fuel. The process will continue this year. The introduction of a bypass road also played a role in improving the environment.

Additionally, city authorities plan to monitor compliance with environmental programs by industrial giants jointly with the prosecutor«s office.

According to an experiment by NGS42.RU, the air in Kemerovo was dirtier than in other cities.
